About

The White Horse Press publishes seven journals on environment and society: Environmental Values, Environment and History, Global Environment, Nomadic Peoples, The Journal of Population and Sustainability, Plant Perspectives and Climate and Cultures in History. We also have a burgeoning booklist – open access and traditional – on related topics.

The White Horse Press LLP is run by Sarah Johnson, her parents Andrew and Alison and her cousin James Rice. The business is incorporated in England as a limited liability partnership number OC407275 with registered office The Old Vicarage, Main Street, Winwick, Cambridgeshire PE28 5PN; VAT number 596858068.

Sarah, who read English at Oxford and whose PhD dealt with Nature, Culture and Landscape in Pacific Travel Accounts, now lives in Cambridgeshire.

Alison and Andrew met in Oxford, but have spent most of the past 50 years living on the Isle of Harris in the Outer Hebrides, where they now run a croft and manage some offshore islands as nature reserves.

James worked for many years in cultural film exhibition, after reading Biology and Ancient Greek at Swarthmore and Oxford. He now lives in Edinburgh, where he splits his time between the White Horse Press and consultancy for independent cinemas.
